Mechanical Engineering Technician


The Mechanical Engineering Technician is an important member of the Design Engineering group who works closely with Mechanical Engineers to develop, evaluate, and improve Lokring products, tools, and technologies through the execution of laboratory experiments and the generation, compilation, and analysis of engineering data. The Mechanical Engineering Technician also maintains the engineering laboratory, equipment, tools, and supplies relative to these activities.


  • Lead, manage, or participate in all activities required to operate within the engineering lab, including: maintain all instrumentation, manage and track assets such as tools and components, procure lab/project materials, ensure a safe working environment is maintained, and perform general housekeeping
  • Assist Mechanical Engineers with equipment operation, troubleshooting, testing, etc.
  • Assemble and modify pneumatic and hydraulic tools, test apparatus, measuring devices, etc.
  • Perform laboratory tests in accordance with written procedures, processes, and specifications
  • Provide technical assistance to customers and internal groups (manufacturing, quality assurance, etc.)
  • Record test conditions, parameters, procedures, and results; compile numerical and graphical data and generate test reports; assist engineering personnel with review, interpretation, and analysis of data
  • Provide input in the development of new products and maintenance of established products
  • Operate basic machining equipment (bandsaw, milling machine, engine lathe, etc.)
  • Prepare drawings for fabrication and assembly of components and systems
  • Write work orders and purchase requests to be furnished by outside suppliers
  • Maintain, modify, or adjust equipment to meet specifications and test requirements
  • Evaluate components and assembled units by measuring physical features and characteristics and comparing with original specifications for form, fit, and function
  • Perform calculations and make recommendations on equipment, measurement techniques, and proposed systems to achieve desired test outcomes
  • Read dials and meters to obtain accurate measurements from gaging and measurement systems
  • Estimate cost factors, including labor and material, for purchased and fabricated parts, unit assembly, equipment installation, and execution of test plan
  • Set up prototype test apparatuses to evaluate new test methods and equipment and operate controlling equipment to observe and record performance and effectiveness
  • Create and modify engineering drawings within the engineering change management process following engineering instructions and specifications
  • Author and maintain written work instructions, policies, and procedures
  • Maintain various analog and digital forms and logs relative to engineering and test lab activities, preventative maintenance, and test schedules
  • Maintain a process of continual professional development through ongoing training and education
  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Good motor coordination, finger dexterity, and manual dexterity
  • Ability to read, interpret, and create blueprints and engineering specifications
  • Strong computer skills – experienced in the use of Microsoft Excel to create charts and graphical data representation
  • Keen technical writing and composition skills
  • Prior experience working in a mechanical engineering test laboratory


  • Experience with equipment automation and PLC / relay ladder logic programming
  • Knowledge of metallurgical concepts and failure analysis (metallography, fractography)
  • Experience with reliability testing and analysis (Weibull)


  • Bachelor’s in mechanical engineering technology with 3+ years relevant experience
  • Associates degree in engineering technology, or a related field of study, with 7+ years relevant experience
