Welding Engineer

The Welding Engineer is responsible for the welding department by supporting and troubleshooting the welding manufacturing processes, optimizing production capabilities, develop welding processes for new products, and drive welding improvements.

The successful candidate will provide collaborative communication across cross functional departments while applying knowledge and experience to innovate and improve welding processes used to manufacture products.

The Welding Engineer shall promote and adopt the continuous improvement culture by focusing on problem solving to drive improvements in the organization’s safety, quality, operational performance, customer satisfaction, and overall financial health of the company.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Support Lokring manufacturing processes in the specific area of Gas Tungsten Arc Welding of pressure containing components.
  • Expected to be able to handle substantial portions of project work and day-to-day shop support with little to no supervision. Should be able to lead projects both within the department and cross-functionally. Assignments may be routine or non-routine and will typically involve a mix of analysis and hands-on activities. They may also direct the work of welders. Assignments may be assigned by supervisors or developed on their own but will need to be communicated to supervision to assure alignment with company objectives.
  • Creates and troubleshoots welding processes to manufacture products.
  • Responsible for weld quality and in-house weld inspection.
  • Specifies equipment and consumables to be used to weld components.
  • Creates procedures and documentation for the manufacturing process.
  • Communicates and works with welders, vendors, customers, and internal cross functional departments.
  • Ability to define task timelines and communicate status accurately.
  • Develop and execute continuous improvement activities to reduce cycle time, inventory, and waste while improving process performance, quality, cost, and standardizing the processes.
  • Typical assignments may include but are not limited to:
    • Development and implementation of new processes
    • Weld inspection.
    • Process improvements and optimization.
    • Troubleshooting and developing welding cells.
    • Continuous Improvement initiatives to eliminate waste in the process.
    • Other assignments as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Assist in the implementation, validation, and support of new and existing welding processes.
  • Implement and maintain qualification of weld processes and personnel to welding codes such as ASME Section IX, plus NAVSEA Tech-Pub-248.
  • Formally report on opportunities for improvement and progress in areas of responsibility.
  • Provide technical support on weld related subjects with auditors, Lokring distributors and key customers.

REQUIRED

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • ASNT NDT SNT-TC-1A Level III certified.
  • Proficient in implementing TIG processes, equipment, and consumables used in production welding.
  • Excellent organizational skills as well as written and oral communication skills.
  • Possess and apply strong problem-solving skills with an analytical approach and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle a variety of assignments and changing priorities.
  • Good computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point. Experience with MRP software, 3D CAD and PLC applications.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently independently, cross functionally, or part of a team.
  • Ability to be effective working with shop floor employees and to adjust work schedule at times if needed.
  • Other duties as required by the company.

PREFERRED

  • 2 year minimum in weld engineering.
  • Experience or working knowledge of codes (ASME Section IX, plus NAVSEA Tech-Pub-248).
  • Working experience of SolidWorks CAD software.
  • Continuous Improvement, Lean Manufacturing experience.
